Aficionados and curious to meet 420 tattoo artists representing 40 countries will meet from Friday to Sunday at the Grande Halle de la Villette in Paris for the 8th World Tattoo where several groups of metal are scheduled.

Exhibitions, contests, …: the tattoo that always aspires to be recognized as an art in its own right will be accompanied by his favorite soundtrack, hard rock.

Several bands including Mass Hysteria and Betraying the Martys (France) and Graveyard (Sweden) are scheduled, alongside star tattooists including Australians Matt Daverson and Sam Taylor, one of the leading gothic tattoos.

“The tattoo goes well with all the music, electro, rap but historically rock and metal are associated,” says AFP Tin-Tin, nicknamed the tattoo artist stars, organizer of the World Tattoo and President of the National Union of Tattoo Artists.

“Tattooing is a social phenomenon that has existed since the dawn of time, with highs and lows, but the craze is concrete in recent years,” he says, figures in support: 55% of French believe that tattooing is an art (80% of 18-24 year olds, according to a survey of the FIFG in 2017 with 1002 people), while 14% of over 18s are tattooed and that 9% of respondents consider do it all ages.

For several years, Tin-Tin who “engraved the rind” of many celebrities including Jean Paul Gaultier, JoeyStarr and Pascal Obispo, leads a crusade for tattoo artists to be recognized as artists.

“We hope that the legislation will change. We want an artistic status for tattoo artists after a number of years of practice,” says Tin-Tin, artistic advisor of the successful exhibition “Tattooers, Tattooed” at the Quai Museum Branly, in 2015.

The first step was the development in 2003 of a charter of good practices under the auspices of the National Union of Tattoo Artists with the Ministry of Health.

Tin-Tin, who represents some 5,000 tattoo artists in France, can boast of a beautiful trophy: while he was Minister of Planning, Jean-Michel Baylet, was tattooed by the artist the year last a dragon on the shoulder.

On the trend side, message tattoos are outdated: “There is no particular style that emerges, there are lovers of realistic tattoos like portraits of superheroes or stars like Madonna.” The tribal tattoo is just as asked, “says Tin-Tin.

The most beautiful tattoos made during the Mondial de Paris (32,000 visitors in 2017) will be decided by a jury of legendary tattooists, including Filip Leu, Bill Salmon and for the first time Mark Mahoney, legendary American tattooist who counts among his long list of celebrities tattooed Johnny Hallyday, Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie.
