The president of the Catalan parliament arrives at the Supreme Court
The President of the Parliament of Catalonia, Carme Forcadell, arrives at the Supreme Court, in Madrid, on November 9, 2017, summoned to testify along with five other regional deputies in an investigation for “rebellion”
The president of the Catalan parliament, the independent Carme Forcadell, arrived on Thursday at the Supreme Court, in Madrid, cited along with five other regional deputies to testify in an investigation for “rebellion,” an AFP journalist said.
Forcadell, 58, arrived at 0900 (0800 GMT) without comment, welcomed by the cries of dozens of demonstrators in favor and against the independence of Catalonia.
She and five other members of the governing body of the regional parliament are the subject of a complaint by the state’s attorney general for rebellion, sedition and embezzlement for concluding a strategy to declare independence in the Catalan chamber.
The examining magistrate must decide whether to take precautionary measures against her and the rest, which could include pretrial detention, as has already happened with eight members of the regional government dismissed.
