Iraqi forces resume center of Hawija at EI

Iraqi forces said on Thursday they had taken over the center of Hawija, the last stronghold of the Islamic State (EI) group in northern Iraq, claiming to “continue their progress” to free the whole area.
Army and police units as well as Hachd al-Shaabi paramilitary forces engaged in the battle for the reconquest of Hawija have “liberated the center of Hawija as a whole and continue their progression,” said in a statement. General Amir Yarallah, who heads the operations.
