with the Farc guerrillas to end more than half a century of
armed conflict, will visit Bogota, Medellin, Villavicencio and
Cartagena de Indias.

It will be “an opportunity to show our affection by what we
know to do: music,” explained Sister Maria Valentina, 28, who
will interpret this anthem with about twenty other singers and
musicians of the fraternity of United Catholic Musicians
(MCU).

The nun came out of the shadows last year by participating
in a television contest “A otro nivel” (At another level),
after which the MCU invited her to compose and sing a verse of
the song, which was then elected to accompany the Pope’s

“Colombia te recibe con los brazos abiertos / a una sola voz
te decimos muy contentos / bendito sea Dios, that in su
sabiduría, te ha traído a nuestras tierras para ser su guía”:
Colombia receives you with open arms, the only voice we express
to you is our joy, blessed be God, who in his wisdom has
brought you to our lands to be our guide, “recalls Sister Maria

Interested in all musical genres, as long as they offer “a
beautiful and profound content,” she loves the spirit of rape,
the rhythm of the black community in the United States.

“What’s great about rap is that it’s easy to stay in the
head and when it has the depth of truth, in this case Christ,
it’s even more striking,” he enthuses, she.

According to the nun, this style of protest responds to the
instruction given to the young people by the pope: “To make
waves”, which “in the language of the Holy Father, is to be
different, to be insolent in carrying a message of joy, hope
and charity “.

That’s why she thinks that the mix of rhythms of “Demos el
primer paso” -vallenato colombian populated and will report to
Francis. The sovereign pontiff is “a Latino.” But more than
pleasing the pope, we want (…) that everyone can sing with us
“.

Sister Maria Valentina is not a classic nun: she prefers
sneakers to sandals by “convenience”, plays ukulele and
teenager, she was rock guitarist.

– Evangelising in music –

Infected with non-alcoholic fatty liver (Nash), a liver
disease diagnosed when she was a child, she should have
undergone a transplant at her majority.

But at the age of 16, doctors discover that there was no
trace of the evil. She attributed his healing to God. A year
later, she took the veil, without giving up her passion for
music.

“My dream is to be a good nun and make music. I would like
to record more and that people, rather than loving my voice,
love Jesus,” she said.

A recognized soloist, she recorded a
disc, “Dime y dame” (“Tell Me and Give Me”) and is part of the
Community of Eucharistic Communicators of the Heavenly Father,
the Archbishopric of Cali, born when Pope John Paul II called
the artists to evangelize by their works.

His congregation includes a television producer and the
musical group of which sister Maria Valentina, who has recorded
two albums and will also play for the Pope in Bogota, is
part.

God “wants to make himself known by the media and (…) he
must do it by what is tending,” said the young nun.
