Festival of Angoulême: Depardieu-Deneuve, Dupontel and Gallienne in foretaste of the season

The Deneuve-Depardieu reunion, the adaptation by Dupontel of the bestseller “Au revoir là-haut” or the last Guillaume Gallienne: the French-language film festival in Angoulême, from 22 to 27 August, offers as an eclectic taste Of the cinematographic return.

The Francophile – and American – actor John Malkovich, 63, will preside over the jury of this 10th Angoulême festival, surrounded notably by director Lucas Belvaux (“Chez nous”), journalist Claire Chazal, actress Laura Smet, the writer Philippe Besson and the singer Raphaël.

The competition will feature ten films from France, Quebec, Tunisia, Burkina Faso, Belgium, with first, second and even third feature films. A very varied selection, with films already honored, like the “Borders” of Apolline Traoré, awarded at the Pan-African Festival of Cinema and Television (Fespaco) of Ouagadougou. And others where the news is eminently present, whether social – “Small peasant” by Hubert Charuel – or international – “A Syrian family” by Philippe van Leeuw. Also in the running, the awaited “Maryline”, Guillaume Gallienne’s latest film.

The festival with the popular label claimed, with its pass to 10 sessions for 25 euros, will open in the evening on Tuesday 22 August with one of many previews: “Au revoir là-haut”, adapted by Albert Dupontel du Goncourt 2013 Of Pierre Lemaître, on the history of an incredible scam to the monuments to the dead at the end of the Great War.

Angoulême will also see the reunion of two sacred monsters, Catherine Deneuve and Gérard Depardieu, for the tenth time on screen, in the bucolic comedy “Bonne Pomme” by Florence Quentin (screenwriter of “La vie est un long tranquil river” and “Happiness is in the meadow”). Depardieu camped there a good mechanic who pulled himself into the greenhouses of an innkeeper (Deneuve) attractive and uncontrollable. The mythical duo, like most of the first roles or directors of the projected films, will be present in Charente, the organization said.

Festival-goers will also be able to enjoy a perfume of cinematic autumn to come through the return of the duo director of “Intouchables” (Eric Toledano-Vincent Nakache) who signs this “Le sens de la fête”, a dramatic comedy with Jean -Pierre Bacri and Gilles Lellouche. They will also be presented in Angoulême “L’Ecole buissonnière” by Nicolas Vanier with François Cluzet, drama comedy on nature background, or “Mon garçon”, a thriller by Christian Carion (director of “Joyeux Noël”) with Guillaume Canet, There is lent a singular experience, playing almost blindly, without knowing anything about the next scene.

The festival of Angoulême, which pays tribute every year to the cinema of a francophone country, this year honors Côte d’Ivoire, with nine films made or produced by Ivorians, since the short film “Concerto pour An exile “(1967) by Désiré Ecarté, until the thriller” Run “(2014) by Philippe Lacôte. Dominique Ouattara, the wife of the Ivorian head of state, is expected in Angoulême for the occasion.
