UN sanctions: Pyongyang denounces “violation” of sovereignty
Members of the UN Security Council vote for new sanctions against North Korea on 5 August 2017 in New York
North Korea on Monday condemned the UN sanctions, saying it would not negotiate on its nuclear and ballistic programs as long as it was threatened by the United States.
The sanctions adopted on Saturday by the UN Security Council constitute “a violent violation of our sovereignty,” Pyongyang said in a statement issued by the official KCNA agency. “We will not put our nuclear disincentive program on the negotiating table as long as the North is threatened by Washington,” adds the text. Pyongyang “will not retreat with one step towards strengthening its nuclear power”.
